This Week in Entertainment

To begin with, I recieved my copy of 300 in the mail this week. I have mentioned before what a wonderful movie this is; it is currently number one on my all-time best movies ever list. Frank Miller makes great movies, and I’m looking forward to the impending release of Sin City 2.

I also recieved a copy of Hawk the Slayer. This movie is distributed, appropriately, by Hen’s Teeth Video (since nobody but me remembers it). It might be worth viewing (or even borrowing from me). If I were to say that this movie was surprisingly good, however, you should remember that it is surprisingly good for a 1980’s fantasy movie with a Celtic-disco theme song.
I have mentioned before that the archery style of Legolas the “machine-elf” in LOTR was inspired by this movie, but there were several things in that trilogy of movies which were inspired by Hawk, rather than Tolkien. I also like the fact the movie panders not at all to the liberal moral-equivalency and appeasement ideologies.

Finally, I picked up a copy of Robot chicken Season 1. This is yet another product of Seth Green, late of Family Guy fame. In fact, you will find many of the stop-animated figures in this program are voiced by Family Guy talent, with guest appearance such as Pat Morita and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Although the action is performed almost entirely with stop-animated 1980’s toys, it is definitely not a children’s show; violence and sexuality are part and parcel of the comedy. There is also some politicing involved, especially poking fun at President Bush–but at least it’s usually funny (like the commercial spot “My name is George Bush, and I approve this message: Tacos Rule!”

More video reviews are on the way in the near future…

Leftist Socialism Just Waiting to Happen

There is a link on Hillary Clinton’s website (http://www.hillaryclinton.com/) for people who feel that their “American Dreams are at risk” to tell their stories. Here’s the story I submitted to Comrade Clinton:

I actually took out a home loan well within my means, thanks to my excellent credit history. Unfortunately, someone is getting ready to tax me to the point that I can no longer afford to pay my own home loan, to bail out other people who simply have no fiscal responsibility.

The Propheteers

The Towers were broken, and the Madmen
Laughed, for the flame, and the death, and our fears
Three thousand died and the Strange Folk have lied
For the profit of Jihad Propheteers.

There are those who have expressed the odd View
That architechtural steel would not fade
If subject to fire; and so I inquire
By what process do they think steel is made?

Another wrote war memoirs of Iraq
And the horror of his moral decay
Though no one recalls his craven attack
And he had not yet seen combat a day.

Jamil Hussein, late of Bahgdad PD
The AP has quite often insisted
Writes of loss in Iraq, but would he still
If the author of these pieces existed?

Chaos shrieks a hideous lullaby
While the Light croons a long dying lament
The world descends in a Fedayeen cry
And never will the Jihadists repent.

So, two days ago some miners were trapped underground in Utah. The Fox reporter covering the incident said that a 2-inch hole was being drilled down to them–adding that, of course, it would not be used to extract them.

How did that even become a consideration? Can you picture the first miner being pulled though the 2″ opening, and all of the rest jumping back and yelling, “WAIT A MINUTE! That didn’t work AT ALL!”

I ordered the second season of The Muppet Show on DVD today–I can only hope it’s as good as the first one! I also ordered a copy of the first season of The Dresden Files. I remain cautiously optimistic, but I’ve looked on IMDB, and it looks like they’ve changed quite a bit from the books.

I cancelled my telephone service today, and my AOL service will soon follow. I haven’t been using them at all; it was just money wasted.

I will be shooting at the regional National Guard championships this month. Although I am not currently on Missouri’s team, they also have “Excellence in Competition” matches open to all. I will be using my Annual Training days for this month to attend, which is great–any day shooting is better than a day in the office! SSG Rufener, the former U. S. Marine sniper with whom I work and who is helping me get involved in all of this stuff, assures me that I will do well.

This weekend will be first off in three weeks–again. Thank goodness I only have to do this one more time before I’ve made up all of my AT days.

Dear Fox Network:

I was very disappointed to find that, recently, on your show, "So You Think You Can Dance",  Mia Michaels hosted while wearing a modified USMC Dress Blue Jacket with improperly displayed Lance Corporal insignia.  I am writing to let you know that this is not only blatantly offensive to all former U. S. Marines, it is a violation of federal law.  More information is available here.  (10 USC, Subtitle A, Part II, Chapter 45, Sections 771 and 772.)
I and my fellow Marines hope to see this issue addressed shortly and decisively.

Thank you,

Jason C. Diederich, formerly of the U.S.M.C.
