I had my first really good field day at my new house last night. I had to quit after the kitchen and half of the living room, though; I ran out of room in my 50-gallon trash can. I found a bunch of my old pictures; hopefully I’ll be posting them here shortly.
Tonight I’ll be participating in my first USPSA practice shoot; I’ll take a digital camera along so maybe I can get some pics!

Let’s see: I’ve pulled some muscle in my back, and have been sleeping uncomfortably for the last few days. I did it while moving some furniture into our new JOC office… which we had immediately to take back.
My $250.00 credit card payment today somehow transformed into a $2500.00 payment; I’ve had to access another line of credit to fix it. I was wondering if I shouldn’t just pay that card off, anyway–I guess my mind’s made up now!

APFT Yesterday…

Well, the day I have been dreading has come and gone. I took and passed my APFT yesterday, although I did not do well. My waist size had increased quite a bit I have been moving and changing shifts constantly; I just barely made my 24% allowed bodyfat.
Further, although my counter never said that I made a mistake, she counted only 43 of my 51 push-ups, which was more than a little frustrating. The heat killed me on my run; I finished my first two laps in just over 3 minutes, buy my final time was 17:14. Combined with 55 sit-ups, that makes a total score of 206… lots of room for improvement.

Spineless Eunuchs

I saw the coolest thing Thursday night. I was driving home from my apartment in Columbia, which I was cleaning out. I passed a group of spineless eunuchs… I mean, protesters, doing a FOURTH OF JULY protest, of all things. They were holding signs like “Oil is War” and “Honk for Peace.” They managed to turn out all of a dozen people, and NOBODY was honking for them.
They flipped a peace sign to me. I flipped half of it back.

21 June 2007

Well, I haven’t finished moving in yet, but I’ve started setting things up. Yesterday, after my after-work “jog,” I mowed my lawn for the first time. I also installed a filter in my kitchen sink and put towels over my bedroom window so I can sleep without the summer-time sunlight streaming in.
I’m just going to have to break down and buy a lawn mower; my weed-eater isn’t doing anything to the flimsy little weeds infesting my yard (that’s a whole other project). I do have a washer and dryer en route from my old house (I can’t wait ’til they show up!).
I’m going down to Mexico tonight to borrow my parent’s truck; hopefully, I’ll be finished moving by Friday afternoon!

So, after a year of trying to arrange an ACT through ISTS or FT Leonard Wood, I finally simply paid the money online to go to a regular test at Lincoln University. Unfortunately, in the month intervening, I seem to have misplace the paperwork required to get through the door (probably in stuff that I’ve packed).
So, I talked to ISTS again. No, they assured me, they do not do ACT’s. I can arrange one with FT Leonard Wood, but they only do them once or twice a year. (I’ve heard this several times now.) But this time, when I call LW, I get a girl on her first day, who doesn’t know to leave me on hold until I hang up the phone. She says that they have an opening on Thursday afternoon–which, by strange coincidence, I have off (having arranged to work this Saturday for another JOC member)!
I have now re-taken my ACT to satisfy the National Guard’s commissioning standards. I am quite certain that I have scored high enough (they only require a 19; I got a 30 in high school). The frustrating thing is, I discovered that they will do ACT’s twice a day, every work day–I could have simply driven down and taken the test at any time!
