“Politically Correct” will now be replaced with “deliberately incorrect.”

Please feel free to make further suggestions!

The Bionic Woman

I have said it before, and I will doubtless say it again: Hollywood is officially out of ideas. NBC is remaking–for the love of God–NOT the novel Cyborg, which was actually kind of cool; NOT the TV interpretation “The Six Million Dollar Man,” which was at least as legit as 70’s TV got; but the let’s-broaden-our-viewer-base “The Bionic Woman.”
With as much money as Hollywood makes every year, you’d think someone, somewhere would be able to afford an original idea.

Korean Hostages

Well, the good news is that the Taliban has released the last group of the Korean hostages that they kidnapped a month ago. While this is undoubtedly good news (no pun intended) for the Christian missionaries, I am afraid that it bodes poorly for the War on Terror and the world in general.
The Taliban has now successfully negotiated terms with a nation. Never mind that they were terms that the Korean government had already intended to fulfill; the success of the negotiation has set international precident and legitimized the bargaining position of the Taliban for any similar future endeavors.
I ask again: Where were the ROK Marines?

Regional Combat Marksmanship Competition

Well, I competed in the Regional National Guard Combat Marksmanship Competition over the last weekend–Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All I got was a sunburn. 🙂
My rifle score was okay–at 181, I actually out-shot some members of the Missouri team. I have never been a weak rifleman, but I have always been a stronger pistoleer.
Always, that is, until this weekend.
I was ABOMINABLE. I actually shot just fine during the fam-fire Friday night, but during the pistol competition on Saturday I… well, the colloquialism involves the release of fecal matter into one’s sleeping-space. So much fecal matter that, in this case, I was tempted to buy a box of Depends undergarments on the way home. The general consensus was that, due to my lack of familiarity with this type of competition, I simply rushed my shots to beat the timer.
Oh, well, shoot and learn.

Letter to My Congressthings:

Dear Congressman:
For some time, there has been resistance to the “troop surge” in Iraq. First, some thought that it was a foregone conclusion that the surge would fail. It is now commonly known that that is not what will be reported by General Petraeus in his upcoming visit. Now, the argument is that, while military progress is being made, there has been no political progress.
Five days ago, a member of a Concerned Citizens Group in Al’Arafia gave his life to save four American servicemen from a suicide bomber. I would remind the Congress that in a democracy, the people are the significant political currency.
It would seem that more political progress has been made in Iraq that has been made here in the last few months.

The True Jihad

On August 18th, 2007, in the town of al’Arafiya, an Iraqi citizen gave his life to save four American soldiers and the other eight members of his Concerned Citizens’ group. Although grieved at the incident, the unidentified man’s friends and family are proud that he gave his life in defense of American troops.
Despite the slowness with which the elected government of Iraq is moving–and let us remember that this process is very new to them–this is a sign of TRUE political progress in Iraq. It is unfortunate the members of our national congress are so focused on losing this conflict by any means necessary that they fail to see the development of a potentially strong new ally.
Regardless of any personal differences I may have with the current incarnation of Islam, this unidentified man’s sacrifice represents the true spirit of what is intended in the Q’ran by “jihad.”

Left Spin on O’Reilly?

I was visiting Bill O’Reilly’s website recently, and was surprise to find that he had linked to a freep.com article without bothering to de-spin the title (“No Spin Zone?”). The article (here) was about a pair of sisters who exploited a loophole in military appropriations to combat zones in order to charge outrageous shipping fees.
The article, rather than being titled something along the lines of “Rogue Contractors Defraud Government,” was titled “Military Pays $998,798 to ship two 19-cent washers.”
Blame the victim much? Or just defame the military?
